Flower Horn Cichlid
The Flowerhorn cichlid is a hybrid cichlid created or bred originally in Malaysia. Like all hybrid species, including fancy goldfish and even Dachshund dogs, the selectively bred animals have been given special features which are not found collectively in other species.
According to some experts, adding color, and hybridizing fish for enhanced ornamental appearance or features is a negative because it adulterates the genetic purity of globally native species, others however disagree with this theory.
It has been suggested that further harvesting of our planets natural fish populations would be better than to cultivating a more beautiful, gentler and more attractive fish for collectors. Flowerhorns have the following benifits over other cichlids:
- They are relatively gentle with other species including gold barbs, Leporinus and Cory catfish.
- Flowerhorns are more colorful than many more common species of cichlid.
- Flowerhorns will never be found identical
- They can be easily fed on pelleted foods so you don't have to sacrifice goldfish or guppies. This makes your fish healthier because they don't catch diseases associated with eating other fish.
- Flower Horns tend to grow no bigger than thirteen to fourteen inches so they're comfortable in the standard and relatively availale 55 and 75 gallon fish tanks.
